Let's start with the BAD and the UGLY...

The Ayalas are doing well. What can I say? In the past year we've dealt with some really screwed up stuff. The UGLY: Vicki's dad still is battling his cancer. Fernando's grandma Margot passed away in Ecuador. Vicki had a rollover accident on the freeway and totaled the car . And her favorite dog died. In February, Vicki spent a week in Northern CA helping her dad with his cancer treatments.

adios grandma margot

And there was some BAD too: We had two FORTIETH birthday celebrations in a week in our household Spring 2009. (Okay, so only one of us thinks this counts as BAD. Darn close to UGLY.)

And now for the GOOD...

And there is a LOT of it. Paul and Hillary were married August 2008 in Kaua'i. Before the Hawaii trip, Fernando and Vicki spent 3 weeks in Brazil getting to know their South American relatives. Vicki visited Megan in Kansas and spent time with little Madison.  Christmas was another trip to Hawaii (for Vicki only) to visit her parents on Oahu.

congratulations!

We've attended some great sporting events - Lakers, Dodgers, and more. There was a small Sandberg "family reunion" in September and Vicki flew up for the day. She's also been to Julian a handful of times in 2009 to see the Kid (and his mom). Vicki's even been to Kansas twice in the last year to visit Madison & Mom.

Fernando has had has fun too! In 2008 he visited his Dad and the two Jerry's in Florida. And he and some college friends drove up to Northern CA for a buddy's 40th birthday bash. We celebrated our 14th wedding anniversary in Half Moon Bay. Recently, Fernando played Old Boy rugby with Los Angeles Rugby Club in Catalina and with Loyola at their annual Alumni game. Vicki is in Oahu currently (May 2009) visiting her folks.

And we've got each other and our health and when we step back for a moment, we see how fortunate we are.  Live Aloha
