The Good Luck of Right Now

Although this isn't normally my "type" of book, there's no denying that I was entertained and that this is excellent writing. 

As in The Silver Linings Playbook, it's almost as if Matthew Quick has an inside read on ... not mentally challenged but mentally sort-of-not-there characters. Those with a lot of quirks, let's say! Here we follow a guy who has had a good life in his mind although the reader may have a hard time believing that! And then it unravels as his mom dies and truths are revealed. 

In all honesty, I read the last 20 pages in tears. So poignant and innocent and heart-breaking (not to him, but to me). It takes something special to deliver all this sweetness along with all the tragedies.

Tell Me

​Lisa Jackson once again puts all the right ingredients into her thriller, Tell Me. 

Hard to put down, twists I never saw coming. Amd twists I expected that, of course, never materialized. That would be too obvious. 

It was especially clever the way Jackson had the reader totally fooled throughout the book about someone's identity but I cannot say more as it will spoil. But she really is so clever to weave this web!

I fall in love with her characters and find myself totally rooting for them. I always wish more revenge on the bad guys than they get but that's okay...justice is always served. 

I would have liked her to build upon a few characters even more, but it is already a nice meaty book.

I recommend this book to suspense lovers. She is truly at the top of her genre.

​Looking over my old book reviews, I cannot fathom how I skipped this one. 

The book got my back into reading again, reminding me of that feeling of getting lost in a book and the enjoyment of the process. 

And 'All the Light We Cannot See' is such an amazing book, I probably thought I couldn't say anything that wasn't said so many times. 

This is without a doubt, the book that touched me the most. I believe it was so well written and so well crafted that Anthony Doerr must have had some inside read on the ways of the world while he wrote. I purposely never learned anything about Mr. Doerr because as crazy as it seems, I don't want to know anything about him that makes him human, like I am. 

I couldn't put this down. I reread it. When I was at the end, I read each word on each page separately as if to make time slow down. I didn't want it to end. 

I literally had tears coming down at points. I felt my heart breaking as I was brought in to this world that was so unfair to innocent people. I didn't want to hang out with people the few days that I was so involved with the book. No way did I want to try to share the depth of my feelings. 

But then...I bought the book for everyone I knew. I bought so many books from Amazon's Canada site (because I wanted the paperback before they sold it in the U.S. - and this worked!) I still see the book in the Top 10s and I'm not thinking "come on, it's someone else's turn" or "this guy's made enough already". No, I'm thinking I wouldn't mind one bit if this one book took up 1 of the 10 spots in the Top 10 lists for the rest of my life. That way,  perhaps everyone would have a copy and everyone would understand what this book did to me. I loved it. LOVED IT.
