Chilling. Haunting. Twisty and turn-y.
The character development is spectacular. The novel alternates the points of view of Jenna, the seasoned detective and the narcissistic sociopath Jenna is married to.
The descriptions of Bristol and of Wales are so detailed, I feel as if I could paint you a picture of the cliffs and small cottage Jenna called home.
The characters revealed little by little as the pages go on. You cannot help but to feel a chill as you endure the unsettling point of view of Ian. I wanted to jump in the pages and slap HER around she could slap HIM around.
I love that Mackintosh holds on to so many little pieces that are actually all necessary parts of this complex puzzle. And the twists when they come were not shocking, but 100% surprising. Meaning I was so involved with the book at this point, that nothing would have jolted me. Although, the evilness did.
If you are in to psychological thrillers, I highly recommend. However, if you are squeamish about physical and/or sexual and/or emotional abuse, go with caution.
I am so invested in these characters now that I have to say goodbye to them.
What a great author. Thank you, Clare Mackintosh, for allowing me to get lost in the pages of your book for a few nights. More, more!
