Sentimental and sweet book for children and future dog-lovers!

I couldn't not love this sweet children's story. The illustrations of the dogs are superb and full of character. The people too. Children's books that are great keep a child's attention and teach a lesson. This does both. I would absolutely recommend this book to any child 4 to 7 (but adults are children too!) I did receive the PDF from the author, Karl Beckstrand, and I am grateful to him for the sentiments expressed in the book.Muffy & Valor: A True Story

What a beautiful book!

The illustrations are exquisite and the story is so sweet. There is so much going on on these pages and it is fun to go back over to see if you missed anything.

And even a lesson ... keep thinking and doing until you get it right. Maybe a little more think before do next time for Argyle Fox!

About the author from Goodreads:
Marie Letourneau lives with her family on Long Island, NY. Born in Queens, NY, Marie's family moved to Long Island when she was 5 years old. She grew up in Babylon Village - a quiet little town on the south shore of Long Island. She has been interested in illustrating books for as far back as she can remember. As child, she would make little books out of paper and staples and give them to family members as gifts. Marie studied fine arts at Hoftsra University's New College where she earned her BFA. In 2006, her first book as both author and illustrator entitled, "The Mice of Bistrot des Sept Freres" (Tanglewood Books) won ForeWord Magazine's Book of the Year Award, Bronze Medal. She has done design work for (and appeared on) The Nate Berkus Show, and The Revolution with fashion icon Tim Gunn. In 2014, Marie was a finalist in the Martha Stewart American Made Awards for her stationery shop Le French Circus, on Etsy. She loves animals, beets, roller skating and plays roller derby. Marie is married with two children, they have two dogs and a cat.

What an uplifting read for kids! Especially those having a tough time navigating the intricacies of their relationships. Whether the problems are with their friends, their families, teachers, strangers there is an anecdote here for them. Especially those who are prone to spend time in their made-up stories - which is encouraged! - they may a feel a bit more accepted after reading. They will understand that the world may expect them to play "the game", but in the long run it's how they decide to treat others that matters. It's worth it for the real friendships that last.

The artwork is phenomenal. LeUyen Pham is clearly in her element here. The graphics are truly stunning ... especially the fantasy worlds the girls enter.

Beautifully done.

Great for older elementary school children (who may need help with the reading) and younger middle schoolers.

Fun, fun, fun!

I love having this beautiful book in my collection and I think it will be a perfect resource for my husband, a 6th grade teacher. The content varies across countries that we hear of often as well as those we don't (i.e., Qatar). Opening each chapter is a rhyming verse about the country and from there it can be anything! I promise that you'll find things in the book that you have never thought of teaching your children (or students). It's the sort of book that would be more appropriate to have on the bookshelf for 5th or 6th graders instead of younger ones. But still perfect to teach about the world to younger ones if you're in charge of the book. The quality of the book is awesome too.

Oh, and I will come back and let you know how the Peruvian Civeche turns out because the recipe looks fantastic!

Grumbles is a very sweet book for children. I'm glad Grumbles stands up for herself and decides to be - despite what the 99 classmates may think - exactly what she wants to be ... HAPPY. I've always wanted to be that too and there are many that will tell you either you cannot be that or it's not actually a "thing to be." Well, it is!

Also reminds me of church school when we used to talk about the "warm fuzzies" and the "cold pricklies" - a way to help children understand emotions and growing up by putting a name to that feeling.

Thank you, Sondra Faye, I appreciate the opportunity to read your book very much and will pass it on to a lucky child!
