Power Play by Catherine Coulter

I enjoy the books I've read in Catherine Coulter's FBI Thriller series. I've been reading them out of order and it hasn't taken anything away. Unless, of course, you read a book at the end of the series and find out you don't need to worry about the fate of certain characters for many of the previous 17 unread books!
Coulter writes as if she knows (and she totally does) the procedures and the inner-workings of the FBI and other related organizations. It gives the books credibility that others don't have as a given with me.
Her characters are great too. I mean a little too perfect. Case in point, FBI Special Agents Savich and Sherlock who I'm not sure are written too flawlessly or if it's just a jealous streak coming out. Their love and protection of each other is the cornerstone of many sub plots.
This plot got a little hokey for my taste though when we went in to special, unexplainable personal powers in return bad-guy, Blessed Backman. I know we've accepted that Davis Sullivan also has some "specialness" but that doesn't come out like this one. So, I feel it was used a little to get around things that couldn't be explained, but hey, it was still a solid read.
And the budding relationship between Sullivan and Perry. Is that going to be a thing?

For Coulter's first novel, The Autumn Countess, she chose a Regency setting for her debut because, says Coulter, "as any published author will tell you, it's best to limit the unknowns in a first book, and not only had I grown up reading Georgette Heyer, whom I worship, but I earned my M.A. degree in early 19th century European History and could fight in Napoleon's army, or join the Allies and beat his butt with Wellington."
Following The Autumn Countess, Coulter wrote six more Regency romances. She then turned to long historicals and eventually interspersed them with contemporary suspense novels, beginning with False Pretenses in 1988, her very first hardcover.
Coulter grew up on a horse ranch in Texas, and graduated from the University of Texas, receiving her graduate degree from Boston College. She became a speechwriter on Wall Street, then, to her joy, she was able to quit her day job and become a full-time writer.
She lives with her physician husband and three cats in Marin County, California, right over the Golden Gate Bridge. She loves to travel, loves to kamikaze down the ski slopes, and reads voraciously while recuperating. She likes to laugh, loves a good joke, and believes the publishing business is too crazy to take seriously.
